Logo Design Worksheet

Please take your time, and provide answers that are as descriptive as possible. Completing this is essential in providing a solid base from which we will interpret and understand what you need from your logo and identity.

I keep copies of all completed forms with a copy sent onto you for your records once you’ve completed it.

I will usually get back to you within 24-48 hours. At this point I will either phone or Skype to go over all the details, or ask you some further questions to help build up the identity project brief.

The information you kindly provide here forms the basis of the creative brief; without which nothing much is possible. The completion of this logo design brief is the first step in the logo design process and allows me to better understand your specific requirements.
  • It would help me to know how you found me? Eg. through Google, Twitter or similar or someone referred you?

  • Logo and Brand Identity Information

  • Please enter the exact wording for your logo (eg. “Designbull” or “Nike”)
  • If you have an existing tag line, which needs to form part of the logo, then please enter this here.

(If you don't have a tag line, then I'd strongly recommend that we work on creating one for you. A good tag line can often form the platform for the visual direction of the logo. You can request a tag-line service below.)
  • Please be as descriptive and detailed as possible so that I can understand what I’m designing a logo or brand identity for.
  • Imagine you have just a minute to explain what your brand is before I leave the elevator.

*NEED HELP? Here’s a good template to help you write it: https://kopywritingkourse.com/elevator-pitch/
  • What makes your 'thing' different and/or better than your competitors? Or what does it offer that no one else does?
  • If you are redesigning your logo, updating it, refreshing it; maybe you're completely starting again in terms of your existing logo and brand identity, then please explain any reasoning/motivation behind this decision.

(It is really important that I understand the reasoning behind any logo or brand update. If you feel it's easier to explain this to me over the phone, instead of writing, then please add that request here instead.)
  • Does this logo need to compete with any existing similar businesses, companies etc? Or are you more of a unique business idea and there will be no major competition in terms of identity to really make a bigger or more stylish splash?
  • Who do you compete against within your marketplace? Please list names, and URL's if possible.
  • You may have competitors that although are not a direct threat, do share some similarities with what you do Please list names, and URL's if possible
  • For example: Office, Home, On-the-Road, Shared Space etc. Please provide your business address.
  • This gives me an idea of the scope of the project in terms of staff and client awareness for the identity.
  • Logo Usage & Applications

  • For example: business stationery and promotional literature, internal signage, external signage, vehicle livery, branded clothing, mobile phone application icons, website, large scale commercial advertising (bus shelters, billboards etc).
  • If you are looking for more than just a logo design, please list any additional design items you require here. For example, stationery designs, brochure design, website design, exhibition or conference stands, signage etc.
  • This helps me gauge your 'wavelength' on what type of style you like and if it's suitable for your industry.

Please list URLs of their websites and why you like/dislike them. As many as you see fit would be ideal.
  • Your Project Budget

  • The more you can afford to invest in your logo identity, then the higher the likelihood we'll find and perfect a winning design that will stand the test of time.

Trial and error makes up the beginning of a lot of projects. Allowing me more time will result in a design that was created through a more natural organic and evolutionary process.
  • A tagline can play a very important part in how your brand 'logo' is interpreted and understood.

If you have a relatively non-descriptive brand name with no tag-line, then people will likely not fully understand what you are about. It's in these cases a descriptive tag-line can make all the difference. A descriptive tag-line can form the foundations for the visual part of the logo design.

If you do have a tag-line, but think it could do with being 'updated', then I'd be more than happy to help you with that also.
  • If you have any more information that couldn't be squeezed in above then do add more into this space.
  • For example, do you have partners, a committee, or a manager that needs to approve the final logo design. One person is best for me but I can work with teams?
  • Thanks for taking the time to fill out our worksheet. Once you hit the submit button, you'll send it straight to me and I hope to reply within 48hrs.
